As you get older, your skin requires a little extra care and attention to keep it looking healthy. Sun damage, environmental factors and the natural aging process all have an effect on your skin. However, there are many ways you can protect your skin and slow down the natural aging process, ensuring it always looks healthy, no matter what age you are.

Here are 8 of our best tips and skincare essentials to help your skin appear glowing and feel healthy every day.

1. Moisturise Every Morning & Evening

Daily moisturising is especially important for mature skin. As you age, your skin tends to become drier because the oil-producing glands become less active and the production of new skin cells slows down. The right moisturiser helps prevent and treat dry skin and improves skin tone and texture. It also acts as a temporary barrier for the skin, retaining water and protecting the outer layers from environmental factors. Abeeco Bee Venom Naturally Whitening Mask is perfect as a daily moisturiser for young or mature skin and can be used as a night cream if you prefer as it's enriched with vitamin B (niacinamide) & Gigo -white to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and blemishes, while deeply moisturising and nourishing your skin.

Moisturisers containing pure botanical oils, vitamins combined with active ingredients like Manuka Honey, Hyaluronic Acid and Bee Venom will give you a naturally healthier and plumper appearance.

2. Exfoliate

Choose the right product for your skin type and avoid gritty face scrubs that can irritate your skin. Exfoliants containing glycolic acid are great for mature skin, as this ingredient gently strips away the top layer of dry, dull skin, revealing glowing skin underneath. Always moisturise your skin after exfoliating to nourish and rehydrate your skin.

3. Wear Less Makeup

Foundation and concealer can settle into wrinkles, so instead of disguising them, makeup makes them look worse. To avoid this, wear a light tinted moisturiser instead, and minimal eye makeup. Powder also makes fine lines look worse - if you need to use powder, dust it over your T-zone only.

4. Use A Primer

Primer is wonderful for mature skin as it evens out your complexion and helps your base to stay put. You should also use a primer before applying your lip colour to ensure it doesn't bleed into the fine lines around your lips.

5. Eat The Right Foods & Drink Plenty Of Water

Your skin requires certain nutrients to look its best. Foods which contain high levels of essential fatty acids, such as salmon and avocado, will benefit you as you get older, as they help to maintain the barrier that locks moisture into the skin. Drinking plenty of water is also vital to keep your skin hydrated. If your skin dries out, you'll find it's much more prone to wrinkles and fine lines.

6. Don't Neglect Your Eye Area

The skin around your eyes is much thinner than the rest of your face, so it's likely you'll start to notice signs of aging in this area first. Apply eye serum or eye cream morning and evening, and avoid using any other products in this area, as it can irritate the delicate skin.

7. Wear Sunscreen At All Times

Sun damage is the number one cause of skin aging. Wear sunscreen every day, even on dull days, when there are still harmful UVA rays around that will contribute to wrinkles, crow's feet and dark spots. If you are using a natural sunscreen, it can be applied right before you go outside. A chemical sunscreen will need to be applied 30 minutes beforehand.

Don’t forget to reapply regularly, especially after exercising or swimming. You can increase your sun protection even more with sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat and coverup clothing.

8. Look Out For Collagen Supplements

Our bodies naturally produce the collagen that it needs, but from the age of 30, this gradually decreases as part of the natural aging process. A collagen supplement delivers the collagen or collagen peptides to your body in a way that increases your levels directly. The benefits include improved skin texture, firmness and hydration, and stronger hair and nails.

It's never too late to start taking care of your skin. Following these tips will ensure your skin looks glowing and healthy every day. Simply making a few small changes in the products you use and paying more attention to your diet can mean the difference between dull, wrinkle-prone skin and bright, glowing, healthy skin, no matter what your age.
